Operation Instruction for the Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli

  • Before using the appliance for the first time, the operator should familiarize himself with the parts of the appliance and check the stability of the appliance.
  • The Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli needs to be placed on a stable, flat and smooth surface, such as a stable table or a bench, so that there is no risk of falling over during its installation or operation.
  • The installation surface should be clean and dry, free from any water and oils.
  • For the operation of the appliance, you need to make sure that there is an electrical installation that meets the requirements of the appliance.
  • After you put the Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli at the selected point, plug the device into the mains.
  • Open the bag containing the sand and spread it evenly on the heating plate.
  • Turn the switch temperature regulator clockwise till the end of the graduations.
  • Ensure that both lamps for the power and the heating element switch on.
  • You should wait for 15 minutes till the appliance reaches the required temperature (300 °C), then the lamp of the heating element switches on an off periodically. The power indicating lamp remains continuously on.
  • If the appliance reaches the required temperature, place on the sand the coffee pot after filling with water and the necessary ingredients (coffee, sugar) and immerse deep into the sand so as to touch onto the heating plate. Move the pot in small circular movements in the sand. Stir coffee and be careful because coffee inflates and can be poured. The traditional greek coffee will be ready in 2,5 - 3 min.
  • When coffee is ready, served. The Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli can remain plugged in with the switch temperature regulator turned at the end of the graduations, in order to prepare more coffees during the day.
  • In order to switch off the appliance at the end of the day, turn the switch temperature regulator counter clockwise till the end of the graduations. The power indicating lamp will switch off.
  • Now you can disconnect the appliance from the power socket.
  • Attention: The sand remains hot for many hours after switching off the appliance.

Hygiene and Cleaning Tips for the Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli

  • Cleaning should be performed when the appliance is turned off, unplugged and should not be hot.
  • Pour water on a damp cloth and drain well and wipe gently the Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli externally to clean any coffee residues.

    Ingredients:
  • 10 gr. Greek Coffee powder.
  • 5 gr. Cascara (dry Cherry Coffee).
  • 30 ml Cola.
  • 20 ml Water Sugar (optional).
    Preparation:
  • Add all the ingredients in the Coffee Pot (Ibrik) and place it in the traditional Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli, stir gently and let it boil.
  • Use an Aeropress to filter the coffee and pour it in a wine glass. Enjoy!!!!

 

Greek Coffee with Cinnamon by Stavros Lambrinidis:
    Ingredients:
  • 7 gr. Greek Coffee powder (light roast).
  • 2 gr. ground Cinnamon (powder).
  • 5 Cinnamon Sticks.
  • 500 ml hot Water.
  • Sugar (optional).
    Preparation:
  • In a large pot pour 500 ml of warm water and add the cinnamon sticks and leave it for about 15 minutes. You can increase the time if you want more intense cinnamon flavor, more bitter taste.
  • Pour one cup of aromatic cinnamon flavored water in the coffee pot and add a teaspoon full of coffee powder (about 7gr), you can also add some sugar if you like.
  • Place the coffee pot in the coffee machine ''hovoli'', after 1 minute, when the water gets warm, stir gently. As soon as the coffee foam starts to raise, remove the coffee pot from the sand.
  • In an empty cup, add a little ground cinnamon, pour the coffee into the cup and sprinkle some ground cinnamon powder on the coffee foam. A coffee, rich in antioxidants, for cinnamon lovers.

 

Greek Coffee with Orgeat by Stavros Lambrinidis
    Ingredients:
  • 7 gr. Greek Coffee powder (one teaspoon).
  • 10 ml Orgeat Syrup.
  • 60 ml Water.
  • Sugar (optional).
    Preparation:
  • Add all the ingredients in the coffee pot and place it in the Greek Coffee Sand Machine - Hovoli.
  • After 1 minute, when the water gets warm, stir gently. As soon as the coffee foam starts to raise, remove the coffee pot from the sand and serve.
  • An aromatic coffee with bitter almond flavor.
