Hand Oil Screw Press

Operation of the Hand Oil Screw Press

Follows detailed description of the right operation of the Hand Oil Screw Press:

  • The screw is operated by turning the crank clockwise.
  • The seeds run from the funnel to the screw. The screw moves the seeds along to the press cage and to the output. Near the press cage output, the seeds are ground and exposed to very high pressure.
  • The oil that is expelled from the seeds in the press cage runs against the flow of the seeds, to the oil outlet slit.
  • The press cake flow out of the press cage open or of the openings of the cap D1, depending on the usage of the adjustment bolt, which depending on the type of each seed.
  • The oil outlet slit, could clog by small particles and should be cleaned frequently with a blade, to allow the free flow of the oil.
  • The oil flows from the oil outlet slit and is collected in containers.

Heating of the Hand Oil Screw Press

Fill the bottle with lamp oil and secure it with the rubber. Light up the wick and wait for 10 minutes. The Hand Oil Screw Press is warm and will produce more oil. The oil is considered cold pressed oil when its temperature remains under 40deg;C. If the oil is too hot then you need smaller flame. If the room temperature is more than 25deg;C then the Hand Oil Screw Press usually does not need to warm.

Hand Oil Screw Press

Settings of the Adjustment Bolt

Oil

After the the Extraction

The Hand Oil Screw Press does not require any kind of maintenance after the extraction process. Still, the thorough cleaning of the Hand Oil Screw Press is necessary after use. Below, read and follow the detailed steps of how to clean the Hand Oil Screw Press:

  • After the extraction, remove immediately the cap D1 from the front of the press cage, while it is still hot. The hot press cake, in the cap D1, is still relatively soft and easy to remove with a knife or a blade.
  • Attention:: DO NOT destroy the threads inside the cap D1.
  • In case that the cap D1 is not cleaned up immediately, while it is still hot, the press cake inside the cap D1 becomes hard like a rock and it is difficult to be removed. If this happens, soak the cap D1 in hot water for few hours. The press cake will be soften and can be removed easily.
  • In case that the same kind of seeds is pressed and the press cake has cooled down and has turned to stone: Light up the bottle lamp oil and wait for 20-30 minutes. The press cake will be softened again and you will be able to continue the process without removing it.
  • To clean up the press cage, remove the adjustment bolt after the use and throw seeds from the funnel. The seeds flowing into the press cage, will also clean up the cap D1.
  • Grease the washer, at the edge of the screw shaft with some drops of edible oil.

Using Funnel for Oil at the Hand Oil Screw Press

To collect the oil from the Hand Oil Screw Press, we can use a small funnel instead of a small container or cup.

Put the small funnel in the hole of the base of the Hand Oil Screw Press. A flexible hose can be connected to the funnel and collect the oil in the large container. Always use a clean funnel and hose!

Oil Clarification

Press Cake

The Hand Oil Screw Press during the process of the pressing, except of the cold pressed oil, produces press cake as well.

The press cake flows from the side openings or from the front of the cap, if the cap D1 is not screwed.

Press Cake

The press cake could be used as concentrated protein in the feed of poultry, pigs, goats, ducks, cattle.

The press cake could be used as organic fertilizer (compost), since it is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

The press cake could be used as biofuel.

In some cases, the press cake is edible:

  • Such as the press cake of the almond, known as almond paste or marzipan.

Appropriate Moisture of Seeds

Sometimes the seeds or the nuts do not have the right content in water, they are too dry, so you can not produce oil. The moisture content should always be 10%!

What to do now? Do not panic because this is very easy to solve. Add a small amount of water to the seeds - nuts, so they have the appropriate moisture to produce oil.

How do you notice that the seeds or nuts do not contain 10% moisture?

  • It is hard to turn the crank.
  • Press cake does not leave the cap.
  • No oil production.
  • Washer behind the screw shows extreme wear.
  • Sometimes also some black oil at the shaft hole of the screw.
  • The seed is ground to a mash.

Useful Tips

The Hand Oil Screw Press can process a wide range of oil seeds and nuts, from which it produces oil and press cake. The produced oil and press cake could be used directly for various uses or can be processed, so as they could be converted into another product. Below are mentioned some useful tips:

Almond Milk

To make your own Almond Milk you need the Hand Oil Screw Press with the Cap D1 (of the standard equipment) and the extra Easyfill set (which is available separately), for easy and practical filling.

There are two types of almonds, the sweet and the bitter. Use the sweet almond, Prunis dulcis. Choose fresh almonds (raw) without their shells and without the seed-coat, then soak almonds for 16 hours. After almonds have dried, eg. in a towel, fill the Hand Oil Screw Press.

Almond Milk

Below are the detailed steps for the production of homemade almond milk with the use of the Hand Oil Screw Press:

  • To produce Almond Milk, the press cage of the Hand Oil Screw Press must be warmed up with a little flame.
  • Adjust the adjustment bolt, relatively loose, otherwise the press cake will flow to the oil outlet slit.
  • The thick liquid, that flows from the oil outlet slit, is the Almond Milk.

You could drink the Almond Milk by adding honey or agave syrup. You can freeze almond milk, for future use, as well. The almond milk could be used in smoothies or as a milk substitute in all of your recipes such as: pancakes, cakes or even in your cereals.

Marzipan

To make your own Marzipan you need the Hand Oil Screw Press with the Cap D1 (of the standard equipment) and the extra Easyfill set (which is available separately), for easy and practical filling.

To produce Marzipan, using the Hand Oil Screw Press, you must follow the instructions for the production of the Almond Milk. The press cake that has been produced from the procedure, is the Marzipan.

The Marzipan must be passed twice through the Hand Oil Screw Press. The second time, the adjustment bolt must be more tightly screwed. Push the press cake to the exit point with a piece of wood, of the proper diameter. Some of the press cake will flow out from the Cap D1 and some from the oil outlet slit. The material from the oil outlet slit is a uniform mass of particles, smaller than 1 mm. Almond Milk

Mix the material with powdered sugar, two to three times its weight and wrap it in 1.5 cm roll. This could be cut in pieces. The press cake from the Cap D1 includes coarse particles, so before adding the sugar, it must be crushed eg in a mortar.

Making Soap Hand

Handmade Soaps Hand

The vegetal oil that has been produced by the Hand Oil Screw Press, could be used for the production of Soaps.

The handmade soaps are made with the intent mixing of the vegetal oil with a caustic soda solution.

Below are the detailed steps for the production of homemade soaps using the Hand Oil Screw Press:

  • The caustic soda solution is highly effective. Avoid, in any case, the contact with skin and eyes! Maintain the bench clean.
  • Use only plastic, glass or stainless steel containers, spoons etc. Do not use wooden or aluminium containers and utensils.
  • Always use hand stirrer, the result is faster.
  • Prefer producing batches of 275 grams of soap. This prevents the high temperature increase during the dilution of the caustic soda.
  • Weigh 200 grams of oil (or a mix of different oils) in a container with height about 15 cm, which fits exactly the hand stirrer.
  • Weigh 50 grams of water in a glass or stainless steel beaker.
  • Weigh 26 grams of caustic soda in a small beaker.
  • Pour the caustic soda slowly in the water.
  • Stir with a spoon or rod of stainless steel, until there are no solid particles.
  • Pour the solution of caustic soda in the oil while it is still hot.
  • Stir with a hand stirrer at intervals (every 15 seconds, maximum of 5 seconds).
  • Pay attention to avoid trapping the air in the mix through the hand stirrer.
  • When the mix becomes a yellow cream pour it into the (plastic/rubber) molds.
  • After one or two days, the soap will have stabilized and should be removed from the molds.
  • Maintain the soap at least for 4 weeks, in half open plastic bags, to remove the remaining caustic soda.
  • You can store the soap, at least for a year in a close container or a bag in a dark cool room.

Handmade Soaps Hand

The quantities that have been mentioned are for oil extracted from sunflower, peanut, walnut, hazelnut, rapeseed canola or hempseed. Please use a measurement device of the quantity of caustic soda for accurate measurements and for other types of fats or oils.

Do not be afraid of the properties of soap that are mentioned on the web-sites. We have made good quality soaps by a single oil, like sunflower oil and peanut oil, not foaming as much as the commercial soaps but cleaned equally well.

The company Dimtsas has no responsibility for any possible damage.

Palm Oil

Use the Cap D3 to transform your Hand Oil Screw Press into an 1 step Palm Fruit Press! The Cap D3 makes palm oil production easy and it requires minimal force and time. According to the manufacturer from 1 kilo of Palm Fruits (Elaeis guineensis) you can produce approximately 0.5 liter palm oil.

Palm Fruit - Palm Oil

To make your own Palm Oil you need:

  • The Hand Oil Screw Press with the Cap D1.

  • The extra Cap D3, which is available separately.

  • And the extra Easyfill set, which also is available separately.

Juice Extraction

Is it possible the use of the Hand Oil Screw Press for the juice extraction from leaves? The Hand Oil Screw Press is a manual tool for the extraction of oil from many seeds and nuts. The Hand Oil Screw Press design is similar to the juice extraction tool design. And this is why the Hand Oil Screw Press is appropriate to produce juice from fruit, vegetables, moringa oleifera leaves or wheatgrass.

The Hand Oil Screw Press is entirely made of stainless steel and we do not want rust. We suggest wash the Hand Oil Screw Press and apply edible oil after use for extract juice from vegetables, fruits, moringa oleifera leaves and wheatgrass.

In Italy, they have experimented using the Hand Oil Screw Press to extract juice from Moringa Oleifera leaves. The result is a nice glass of freshly squeezed Moringa juice! The conclusion of the Italians who did the experiment is that is that even if juice can be extracted from the branches, the branches cause problems by blocking the juice outlet. They belive that leaves and twigs should be finely cut for optimum results.
